Luís Martins, a researcher in the SENCY project and a master’s student at Instituto Superior Técnico, has been selected for the 2026 CMU Portugal Visiting Students initiative. He will be hosted by Mario Bérges in Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

His research topic, “Data-Driven Demand Response and Flexibility Management in Industrial Kitchens,” focuses on the use of data to support energy demand response and flexibility management in industrial kitchen settings.

Luís is among 12 students and recent graduates selected for this year’s Visiting Students initiative, which offers research stays of up to two months at Carnegie Mellon. Together with seven visiting faculty members and researchers, they form a cohort of 19 scholars from Portuguese institutions participating in CMU Portugal’s 2026 mobility initiatives.

Supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), these initiatives provide opportunities to collaborate with CMU faculty and strengthen research links between Portugal and the United States.
